According to the identification books I've been able to find, this species of bumble bee has nine basic color patterns. The black stripe above the orange tail is the marker I'm going by to differentiate this from the black-tailed bumblebee. I can only hope I'm right. I've put in a title to ID a male Mixtus toward the end
